EOD:  Explosive Ordinance and Demolitions.

ELINT:  Electronic Intelligence.

EXCAVATION:  A recovery operation.  The proper and precise term used for the physical act of digging a site using archaeological methodology.

EXCAVATION DECISION BRIEF (EDB):  This is a meeting between the commander of JTF-FA/JPAC and the Investigation Team Commanders recommending cases for the excavation list.  Other members present are the J-3 and J-2 and several members of CILHI.  Each case is discussed in detail and the commander has the final say if the case is placed on the excavation list for upcoming recoveries.

FIR:  Field Investigation Report.  A term previously used interchangeable with the Detailed Report of Investigation (DRI).  FIR’s are no longer used.

FIRSTHAND:  An adjective indicating actual individual participation or presence.  A “first hand account” is a description of an event provided by someone who personally witnessed it.

FISCAL YEAR:  This is the year as defined by the U.S. government for financial plan reviews.  The FISCAL year runs from October to October.

FNG:  Fucking New Guy.  A term used to describe new personnel assigned to Field Teams until after their second mission.

FPJMC:  Four Party Joint Military Commission.  An organization that was supposed to monitor the peace in Vietnam after 1973.

FSB:  Fire Support Base.

FUBAR:  Fucked Up beyond All Repair.  Sounds like the DIA stony Beach organization.
